Vacuum brake bleeding

Post by 3VILC »

So theres a lot of ways to do this, be it professional equipment or home made, but if you've ever use this method can you tell me, compared to pressure bleeding included the normal 2-man manual bleeding, I assume there would be little to no actual movement of the piston?? Making this an ideal method for setups such as mine where the calipers are mounted at angles other than which they were designed so they need to be removed from the discs to get the bleed nipple at the top?
Any pressure bleeding method would require some sort of spacer the same thickness as the disc to hold the piston in place since in some way or another your applying pressure to the whole system before opening the bleed nipple.
At least I think my logic here is correct..now time to go make a modified juice bottle and take the vacuum cleaner out to the garage before the mrs sees what I'm upto

Get a garden sprayer, fill with a litre or two of brake fluid and pump up. cut off the nozzle and fit on a bit of small bore rubber hose and gently pull the trigger till fluid is at the end of the hose. Push onto the bleed nipple, loosen the nipple, and push the fluid through the system till no air bubbles at the reservoir.
You could used a bit of wood for a spacer as there won't be much pressure in the system.

Tried the vacuum cleaner on a 3L juice bottle, worked a treat.

But the garden sprayer works without power and is safer if the missus catches you! :D

Been messing around with brakes a bit lately & saw a air powered vacuum sucky brake bleeder thing at BNT - thought it might save a bit of dicking around after replacing various brake lines etc... nup. The vacuum must be too strong as it pulls air past the seals in the master cylinder & leaves the system full of bubbles.

Have had better results in the past pushing fluid up from the calipers with a big syringe but it's a bit messy, a wee garden sprayer sounds like a good idea.

Cheers

If it doesn't break, drive it harder.
