Pretty sure there used to be a Coast to Coast in the SI quite a few years ago.

Surprised some of them hadn't even bothered to fit some form of diff locks, would have got so much further before winching, but then again it makes for good TV

So funny - real car crash tv! Obviously staged and they have to follow prescribed routes etc. Still a good watch just to see real life morons in action

I watched the first one , I thought a few of them had lockers in the rear (or spools) , was hard to read the screen on the small display thou . Not watching it again to check .

Its an American program , not hard to work out the only American based vehicle will be the one to finish

The Land Rover 90 is the coolest vehicle on there.

Lets face it he should be running a HD tierod/draglink if he's going proper offroading in one of those. As for the driveshaft, I dont know what the hell happened there.

Haha, everyone seems to conveniently forget the 22R in the IFS 4runner constantly over heating. That has be a pre existing issue

Also the Jeep took a lung full of water, the fuel pump shat it's self and the front bumper fell off

I reckon smashing the steering on a tree stump and a UJ bearing failure (which had to have been a pre existing issue like the 4runners radiator) is all fair game for team rover so far

You could argue that the only reason the bumper fell off the Jeep was because he was pushing the trail through the trees. Therefore you could also argue the only reason the rover smashed its steering was because he was following the carnage left behind through said trees from the Jeep


On that note, fark that FJ55 is a pig dog ugly bus

So funny to watch these guys LOL at there 4runner 22re see the other newer v6 ones got rock crawler axles housing must be fairly tricked out. also 5 trucks and only one has a land anchor surely they would of known that there wouldn't be winch points.

Ain't nothing wrong with the 22re. The most capable crawling truck I've ever seen in real life was powered by a 22re, 5.29s in the diffs, dual cases and 4.7s out back. Thing would tear apart stock Toyota birfield joints if you looked at it the wrong way. It's all in the gearing. A small, basic, compact stock engine is a good thing for a variety of reasons. Unless you're into redneck mud bogging, You can have all the raw power in the world but unless it can be put to the tyres effectively and controllably, it's useless.

As for that IFS 4runner on 35s, that thing is awful. I suspect that is either heavily heavily modified or had some serious front end durability issues that they have chosen not to show us. And the gearing setup is horrible. In its current setup It doesnt have enough power to pull the skin off a rice pudding and it will be permanently out of alignment after those rednecks have finished reaming on it.

I'd imagine that this is correct. Its widely recognized that they will lie, cheat steal, do whatever necessary to protect their domestic industry. Just like how the NHTSA\Consumer report fabricated all those lies about the Suzuki Samurai and Isuzu Trooper having high rollover risk. Conveniently, these lies surfaced about a year after both of these vehicles had been released in the US market, and were smoking all of their domestic competitors in sales.

And why didn't the 1988+ Nissan Patrol ever get released in the US? It may be just conjecture but I suspect it's because local manufacturers knew it would have annihilated anything they could come up with. Things like the Tahoe, Bronco, Blazer, Yukon, Wagoneer - basically any of their poorly built plastic SUVs made from melted down action figures and powered by antiquated inefficient engines from the 1950s.

The only truly innovative and genuinely outstanding offroad vehicles that the US have ever come up with are the HMMWV (H1 in civilian-speak, probably the pinnacle of Severe-duty American automotive engineering) and some variants of the Bantam/Willys/Chrysler Jeep. The latest generation Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited is very well thought out. It is marketed as the most capable production 4x4 in the world. With its physical dimensions, drivetrain options and gearing, I believe this to be true. Build quality/reliability is a different discussion. But purely in terms of capability, it has all the credentials and then some.

But the Landy is still the coolest rig on this show, followed by the SAS 4runner driven by the arrogant dyke with big balls and something to prove. The red Jeep is stupid. It's not even a Jeep anymore.

the earlier patrol as we are used to seeing it was never sold in US as the big inline six couldn't reach the stringent 3rd tier emmissions schedule, that is why only the D series chassi was sold there

In saying that the 1994 (after changes to the engine to make it lighter and more responsive and easier on fuel) onwards patrol is sold state side as an infinity QX**/y62/v62 and rumor has it can even come with a cummins V8 diesel as an option the same engine (via a production order) that is used in the titan.
