URGENT super select 4wd

Hi, hopefully someone can help, im pritty shure i have a dud solenoid as when im slowing down i get a whine sort of grinding noise and a clunk just befor i stop. If i put into 4wd as soon as it starts the noise it will go away. Also having trouble getting out of 4wd- lights on dash keep flashing and have to put lever in and out to get to stop flashing.
What i need to know is is there a way to temporarily disable the system as we are travelling back to taranaki from kerikeri, getting by at the moment by putting into 4wd each time i have to slow down below 50 and taking it out again once doing nearly 80. Using allot of petrol this way.

dont know much about mitsis but is there anyway of removing front drive shaft and leaving it in 4x4 mode?

check the pinion front and rear. as when in 4wd the load on the suspect pinion will be eased, and if worn or damaged when trying to disengage 4wd there will be a difference of load on either the front or rear diff even when coasting.

remove the rear shaft and drive in 4wd/fwd or vice versa

my 94 wouldn't even unlock out of 4wd at one point, drove home from 90 mile to auckland in 4wd and traded it for a nissan :mrgreen:

The solinoids are located sorted behind the air box, under the power steering resivoir. One has a yellow dot on it and the other blue. You can swap air lines over to trick it if you fiddle about abit, just follow the lines down the inner guard.

You can't remove driveshaft otherwise u risk loosing all transfer case oil.

If the lights are flashing I think it shows an error state on the controller. You should be able to bridge some terminals and it will show you a fault code, well it did on our gen 3 pajero. This then should be able to point you in the direction of the fault.

Its probably worth checking the vacuum lines going to the actuators on the transfer case and making sure the vacuum pump is operational.

If that doesnt work you can drive in 4hi as it has a center diff, I am assuming you have a gen 2 or 3 pajero.

Cheers for ideas, staying in hamilton to brake trip up, traffics been hectic, will cruize back in 4 high and sort out at home. Cheers

got home sweet after disconecting vacume hose on actuator on diff, will get manual hubs soon and new solenoids
