Homemade fuel cells..

So for todays 'out of interest' question what are people running, or what have people made into, fuel cells for their trailer/trials/club trucks?
(with the exception of actually buying a $250+ fuel cell)
Im running the good old 6gal plastic boat tank at the moment, but given the long shallow shape of these,and relatively low capacity, fuel seems to spend a lot of time away from the pickup, got to be something better and cheap to use.
Was thinking an old compressor tank or similar mounted vertical could work? Outlet in the bottom 'end' plug, some sort of filler welded into top and a fitting tapped for return

19kg lpg tank should hold approx 38 ltrs of fuel and mount it as you mentioned with the comp tank idea

after you fawk around trying to modify something and buy all the fittings and piss about a bit trying to make it all work the cost of a fuel cell doesn't start looking so bad but if your going to try and make something up yourself try and avoid things like compressor tanks they have usually had water sitting in them for years and are rusty inside, try and use something alloy or stainless that wont give you rust problems, beer kegs have been used a thousand times before

hahaha im sure they could, its a cool idea, had a look on trademe but people want rediculous prices for those, and would require alloy welding to fit some sort of filler neck.
Not really looking at anything right now, just curious as to what other people had been using.
Curious as to any reason you couldnt use a tank with a bottom outlet rather than a top pickup? Thinking it may drain itself out the carb over a period of time (given that a deck mounted tank is likely higher than the carb). But would cure any starvation problems..unless you were upside down haha.
Chances are i'll probably just leave the boat tank there and carry a 10L spare anyway lol

use a keg being stainless
u can get them cheap if u hunt round the crappys like 80 bucks i was lucky i got all mine for 20 bucks each off a m8 for my stills

filler would be easy as as u use a stainless v band clamp that fits the keg and it dose not move or leak 23 bucks from steal and tube
