LN107 Clutch issue

Quick background.

92 Hilux, daily driver. LN107 with 3L manual. Jap import, IFS.

Dual mass flywheel has thrown a spring. Currently have the engine hanging by a thread in my shed. It looks like a billion dollars to replace the dual mass one, so solid flywheel looks the way to go.

Research shows that I can get two different sizes - which one would I go for and why?

what are the different flywheels off?
if its anything like the surf conversions use 3l flywheel. i've had a smaller one which i think is the 2l flywheel. bigger one has more aera for clutch plate to grip.
the tricky bit is getting the right pressure plate. with the surfs we use a hiace 3l pressure plate with 2lt (dual mass clutch) bearing (which is the longest of them)

Do you have a dualmass or solid flywheel for a 3L engine? If dualmass, what conditon are the springs and plastic keepers in? If solid, what size is it? Cheers.

dual mass are rubbish i just throw them in the bin, have both flywheel sizes in solid

Cheers, throwing the dual mass away seems to be the best option, not keen on this drama again. Amateur question - how do I tell which size solid I need? I have the engine out and dual mass flywheel removed so can easily check bolt patterns, diameters etc. Cheers for your help.

you can fit the small flywheel or the big one, bolt pattern to the crank is the same just the pressure plate and clutch plates are different sizes there is 225mm and 240mm (this is the diamemter of the clutch plates) both will work in your truck


Hence my dilemma - bigger one makes more sense to my mind - more fricton area = longer clutch life - but for the life of me I can't find anything on the net where someone has done this before with a good explanation of the parts used and from what.

At a guess I would imagine the larger ones were for the larger r 150 box and the smaller for the g52.

Righto. Man at Toyota said yup, got a single mass flywheel and clutch that will bolt right in no problems. Even comes with the different bolts required to mount the flywheel. Here's hoping he knows what he is talking about - my biggest concern is as shown below

The dual mass unit is really thick - if this single one I've got coming isn't just as thick or doesn't have some sort of spacers or extended thrust bearing, things aren't going to be pretty.
