Hey all,
What have you guys done or recommend to use for cleaning the intake manifold/system after i have done the EGR block off? Researched a little bit but didn't find much. Removing the manifold itself and cleaning the pipes and hoses seem to be the way to go.
Can i use some sort of Upper intake cylinder cleaner? Something along the lines of what Subaru sell off the shelf.
Cheers

I soaked my manifolds in a container of petrol for about a week then degreased them and hosed them off. Works mint if you can be without your truck for awhile

+1 with the petrol soak. Minimal effort required once the manifold is off.

When you take the manifold off for cleaning are there any gaskets needed to replace?

I used oven cleaner. Spray it on leave for an hour then hose off. Repeat a couple of times.

Try a bit of this. EGR cleaner in a can, squirt it into the intake manifold with the engine running.

I probably wouldnt recommend oven cleaner on anything aluminium. Its way too caustic.
EGR cleaner sounds good, but is there the chance of loosened bits of crud finding their way into the engine?
Manifold off is probably the safest bet. Admittedly I need to do this too but likewise not keen at having to pull the whole manifold to bits.
Having said that, I used sugar soap to de-coke the head on the Suzuki. Its just sugar soap cant be that strong I thought, later reading do not use on aluminium

Doesn't seem to have done any harm tho

The EGR cleaner is a very common product in Europe and I haven't seen any comments of adverse effects online.

I took off my manifolds , used a home made scraper and a couple cans of brake clean. Probably nowhere near as mint as a petrol soaking but sure made the engine breathe better

It certainly sounds like a reasonable option. Obviously its never going to work as well as dismantling. But does anyone know where to get this JLM stuff in NZ, or do Chase sell to anyone, can't see a dealer listing or anything on thier website? There seem to be several similar products suitable for petrol engines but likely not recommended to spray them into a running diesel I imagine, but no diesel specific ones other than the JLM stuff.
