That's great bloody news I bet the guy's stoked! Too often when the 4WDs get pinched they're parted out and never seen again or only a burnt out shell is found missing all the bits .

It might pay if people have bull-bars, winches etc to think about marking them in some way a thief might not easily notice but can be used to ID them.

Nice to see one go back to it's rightful for a change.

Probably better to mark the bolt on bits in a way that cannot be removed (a weld, engraved registration number etc) so that a thief, and potential purchaser, will notice the markings.

The reason I was thinking of marking stuff in a way that's not obvious is because if someone for example say pinches your wagon and rips off the bullbar and you've got your name/ rego whatever welded inside it the tea-leaf will see it and just grind it off, spray some black, job done.

With engraving I've even heard of people welding over it and grinding/ buffing it smooth again so it looks like it was never engraved.

I dunno - maybe the best ways a bit of both. An obvious ID mark as a deterrant and a less obvious one to prove something's yours if it gets recovered. Every so often you hear of the police busting a chop shop but there's nothing to identify the parts they recover so they end up at the police auction.

Anyway - just my 2 cents.

Not a bad idea doing it both ways (visible and invisible).

Visible to deter the lazy thief and invisible to identify your property if the thief has gone to the effort of removing the visible markings.

I said a visible mark as when I was a uni student I had a job (for about a week) selling invisible marking pens for TVs video players etc

The sales pitch was "put an invisible mark on your electronic gear and a sticker on your window saying everything is marked and you will not have a home invasion"


Given I didn't believe a word of what I was saying I soon quit and got a job battening fences.

Yeah I remember those UV pens. In the UK little microdots with serial numbers were the go for a while.
Anyway seeing the Eastborne one a couple of weeks back then this one just got me thinking about it.
Anyone else got any ideas on keeping your bits and pieces yours?
