Nissan Terrano/Pathfinder disk brake diff?!

Post by MUDFINDER »

Hi guys!

The parts truck that I've got is a 1994 Nissan Terrano, V6 manual. It's nothing special at all.. Although, I have noticed that the rear axle is disk brake... I always thought that Terrano's & Pathfinder's were drum brake rear? Well, my 94 Pathfinder is anyways & this is the first disk brake Terrano I've seen before..

So, would it be worth running the rear axle out of that truck instead of my drum brake setup? My current diff is LSD & is tight as ####! Almost to the point where you would think it is running a locked diff. The other diff is also LSD, but appears to be larger than mine? I haven't actually done any measurements or anything but visually it looks different...

What's everyones thoughts?

Any help appreciated! :)

The disc brake rear end will be a h233b/hg43 same as my eurobox assembled mistral. Id say that if it has a towbar it will also have heavier springs in the rear

It didn't come with a tow bar but i assume it could have originally had one :) Yeah it says HG43 on the plates & tags. I haven't checked what my other one says though.. It does have heavier springs by the looks of it! I thought it may have been lifted but that explains it all!

Do you think it's worth swapping the disk setup onto my good truck?

Yep, but from memory you will need to swap the hand brake cable too, as the disc brake cable is slightly shorter then the drum, if the disc brake rear has a proportioning valve swap that too as the disc's will be more effective then the drum under heavy load.
