4x4 no longer wanted
4x4 no longer wanted
I'm after a cheap truck, recently bought a rental house and am wanting it as a mobile tool kit to cart gear back and forth for doing repairs and also want it off road capable. Due to morgage don't want to draw too much funds (at all). Looking towards a SUV body, pretty flexible as to machine but prefering Toyota then Nissan (if those two word are permitted in the same sentance). A std machine would be fine, and mods a bonus. If you don't know of a machine any recommendations welcome.

At the risk of one of you guys being interested....
any one know anything of this machine

Had my eye on one down here, drove it etc but the guy pulled the auction before close as it wasn't getting enough bids...

Currently looking at a 87ish 2.4T surf or a 85ish 3.4d SWB cruiser similar condition, ks etc
Figuring the surf will be better for the road work (performance) the Cruiser better for lugging - both have similar interior load space.
Surf is std diff and IFS and the cruiser is factory LSD rear and open beam front.
Interested in recommendations.

Will be using for carting gear mainly on road stuff and also the freedom of off road but will normally be with shineys so don't need too ruggard
What sort of $ is decent for SWB cruiser with the 3.4 non Turb diesel at about 265000k in tidy body for mid eightys age
Simular spec truck to this.

but small spot of rust at lower edge of rear guard and starting round rear windows, tyres ¾ worn, paint fairly good but not as good as the one pictured, interior fair for age but showing wear, slight exhaust leak.
I've also seen this one in the tin:

very rough inside and out but seems ok mechanically

Got me a truck - well getting it tomorrow.
Think of one of the least desirable Surfs that rolled out of the factory for off road work and you have it.
1986 = not beam axle but neither later model!
2ltr petrol
Good points: (yep there are some)
Very tidy condition for its 21 years
Pretty much everything works as per new
Nice sounds incl MP3 player
Four very good A/Ts less than ¼ worn
Manual hubs
Front Nudge bar and Spotties (not wired up tho)
Underside in immaculate condition
Hardly ever been used off road apparently (was owned by some old folk originally then sold to this guy a year ago, he lost his license and hasn't used it for the last 7 months but gave it a full service and new battery)
All the 4x4 seems to work, tested the drive to the front end and checked that the hubs do engage.
But most of all - and the reason I went this way - dirt cheap! Which means no money to be taken off the mortgage as can pay from cash flow.
This will still do the carting of equipment and some off road for me, old and cheap enough not to worry too much about (although its almost too mint to scratch it) When the finances are looking prettier I might get a real machine.
Toyed with getting a nice cruiser but this was about ¼ the price
Any recommendations or easy (read cheap) mods let me know. I don't have the time to get into real serious modding at present but will play round with this and test its limits.
