How can i tell if my motor is a td27t or td27+t

Hey team

SOOO purchased my ute late October/ish last year, turbo td27 - never though much of it till I got failed on my WoF for not having a cert for the turbo - now that im dealing with this cert issues, he wants to know if it was a engine swap (td27 tubro motor) or is it just a bolted on turbo deal!

Is there any engine numbers on the motor that could answer this?

because "apparently" the engine swap will need a cert, but a bolted on turbo doesn't as it wont increase the power over 20%, going on the standard hp numbers of the factory turbo td27(99hp) and the non turbo td27 (84hp) of around the 91-93 motors.

My old rb20de + turbo use to get wofs all the time - so this was a kick in the teeth

Will probably be up for sale after this - made me dislike this awesome ute alot
:(
any info would be nice!

Thanks

That information is actually a little backwards...
ANY fitting of a turbocharger requires LVVTA Certification.
On the other hand, a straight engine transplant does NOT require LVVTA Certification when compared with the OE engine, the replacement engine:
 is of the same or less cubic capacity; and
 has equal or less weight; and
 has the same or less power output; and
 uses the same fuel (petrol, diesel, LPG, CNG); and
 uses the same unmodified attachment points and system (ie bolts-in); and
 uses the same family of block and cylinder head from the same vehicle
manufacturer; and
 is of the same configuration.

See the LVVTA Modifications threshold for more info:
http://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/suple ... eshold.pdf

Also here is the VIRM that all WOF inspectors follow:

If it is a factory turbo it will have TD27T on the top of the first inlet port of the head.
The ETI engines also have this even though they are different injection systems.
Also a good indication if a head may have been replaced as only OEM heads have it in the casting.

Rip the turbo off and get an exhaust adapter or something to suit?
Then get a wof put the turbo back and wait for a cert man to come free?

This is my next plan, will just be a pain.

Just wait until the recheck date has expired and then take it to another garage. There's a good one on Maroa road.

If the wof man has entered it as a fail with the reason why into the WOF network the next inspector will see it when he try's to enter it as a pass.

Why not instead have a look to see if the ute was indeed a factory turbo one? Check chassis tag for details.

As stovanovich has written both having a turbo engine fitted or a turbo setup fitted to a non turbo engine if in a OE non turbo vehicle (even a larger turbo on a factory turbo setup) ALL require certification. Regardless of if it gets a wof or not (as its often easy for an inspector to not notice) its illegal, and complications could occur in the case of an accident etc. It'd be a good out clause for insurance companies

No. Not at all. If a vehicle has previously failed a wof unless the sheet is left in the vehicle the new inspector will probably never know.
And yes, inspector will have entered it onto system as a fail. Its not worth the repercussions of not doing so.

soo on the computer is failed as worn tie-rod ends and worn radius bushes, that's all, wof man said he wont pass it but some one else might.

I'll be getting the cert, just looks like I have to keep borrowing cars till I can get it in with the lvv cert people here, which could mean months of asking friends and family for a car while I wait haha!

Anyways thanks for the advice, Utes now all looked up in my shed for the long haul!

Regardless of what a WOF fails on you are entitled to a second opinion which could be a pass whether or not it is past the recheck date. I was informed this by my usual mechanic, when I brought my Terrano I got 2 "free" WOF checks (at their in-house workshop), like any "free" mechanical check I know this is largely a scam to con more money out of you in the future for repairs that dont really need doing or don't even exist so I just took it to my garage as usual. He said you could have taken it for the free one and then gone to him for a second opinion if they failed it on anything.
At the end of the day yes it still needs a cert, but how many of us have bolted in other engines or other mods and not worried about it as long as it gets a WOF

I'd recommend checking if the vehicle was a factory turbo (as was said earlier). Dependant upon the model of Nissan, not all of them had the "T" indicating that they're turbo charged, on the chassis tag.
