Wrecking G16a vitara

Post by Sausager »

I'm wrecking a grey SWB vitara with the 1600cc (1.6L) G16a motor, the carbied version. The car has a current WOF but has been deregistered due to rust. Sadly because the car has been deregistered, I can't run a km check on the car. Previous owner is working on finding some paperwork with the kms listed on it.

The motor runs well when warm, except for a "flat spot" or sputter in the low revs. It also doesn't idle too well when cold. I'm pretty sure both of these is caused by overfuelling from the carb. An easy fix for someone who knows what they're doing - or a new/good condition carb. Once it's warm, she purrs real nice. The motor is still in the car so can be test driven. I am happy to strap to a pallet and send away too.

I want to keep the car driveable/rolling until the motor is sold. If you want parts, let me know.

I'd love to mate, but I can't justify the cost right now I'm afraid :( Power steering and low ratio diffs are a go though! And rear brakes if they fit...

Yup the crown and pinions should fit, there's a good writeup over on suzukiclub tech section how to do it.
1600 front brakes fit straight on the SJ front but aren't really any better unless yours are shagged. I know they also fit the rear using SJ front brackets, don't know if the vitara brackets can be made to fit so easily tho

Having said that, you've obviously already worked out you can swap the crown and pinions without buying the adapter kit.. it also looks fairly straight forward to mount up a G16 without the adapter kit too, I would've given it a go if the G16 I brought didnt already have the SJ conversion bits on it.
I'd buy the engine for a spare, but likewise don't have any spare coin floating around at the mo haha, spent all that on spacers, and whole new ignition system, and hub rebuild kit, and a ton of other bits and pieces to get close to a usable truck..we just dont tell the Mrs that
