We are looking at getting an EPIRB for the club, I am familiar with the maritime 406 ones but thats abit over the top for us I reckon.
What to do you guys use ?
What are the good and bad bits about them?
What kinda price range are looking at.?
Cheers

We got GME MT410G PLB for the club a few years ago. I carry the same unit as well with me. Remember to register them with Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ).
I can't find the source for where we got it from, but looks like they have come down in prices:

Found the source where we got them from:

I've sold a few at work
ResQlink and RescueMe models.
Both are popular, ACR a bit more than the other...Prices have been around 500 I think.
I think the ACR currently has a $50 cash back deal and comes with a strobe and reasonably large first aid kit depending where you buy it.
RescueMe is smaller than a packet of smokes now and has a 7 year warranty like gme.

Interesting, I had not heard that yet. Care to elaborate? Or should I / Club query the Zone / NZFWDA? Could this be just your Zone?

I hire one from my local Hunting And Fishing when I go bush as I don't get out often enough to justify buying one.
If you want to read some good info on them get onto the fish n hunt forum. They are a regularly debated topic on there as well as a few other options people are using.

Great idea by the Zone. No such luck in the Northern Zone, we source and fund our own safety essentials.

central zone must have spare $10k burning a hole in their pocket dying to get spent, I guess its better off getting used for something useful than growing cobwebs in the bank

Our club has just this unit,$399 I think from memory which is very affordable considering the implications of use..

Ive got the fast find from smart marine for $529
http://www.fastfindplb.com/en/Was keen on the ACR but as I'm trail running or Mountain biking, and the thing will be thrown in and out of bags over the next ten years.
I wasn't keen on the ACRs external arial. It's a ribbon that wraps around the body. I figured It would only get caught or snagged on something without me realising untill I needed it.

Thanks for taking the time to post everyone, very imfortative.
Especially as there no arguments about which brand is best to go with the Solid axle truck, auto lockers with a supercharged petrol on 37s..
