hi guys, recently purchased a intercooled 97 surf, stock standard, just looking to get some upgrades to take it a little off road!,
am looking at a 2" lift and am wanting some 33s equivalent, being a 97 it has 16" rims (more dearer:( ) , and am thinking of some either Khumo KL71s
or a set of desert hawk XMT, only thing is not sure of what offset 16x8 rim that would suit best have read -13??, and the size of the tire to get so im not rubbing, or sticking out from the guards to much at all..
any info would be hugely appreciated !
and open to others opinions

Sam.

285/75R16 is the metric equivalent of 33's but a 265/75R16 (32ish) would fit better in the guards and won't need flares with the right offset.

Had a bit of a google and a 0 offset seems to be pretty common in yank land (they know them as 3rd gen 4runners) and they seem to sit about level with the guards so a -13 would probably just be sticking out a little bit. If you are taking it offroad 265's would be better on a 7" rim as the bead is less likely to come off at lower tyre pressures.

the 265/75/16 fit with no suspension lift, so you COULD go bigger on the tires if you do intend to do a 2" lift. Up to you.
good advice from Zuk.( factory rim is 16 by 7".)

thanks for the info!, appreciate it, i also found out a guy with -22 offset with 285/75/16 and he said his tyres sit flush with the guard, hmm if i can fit the 265/75/16 with no lift, may aswell go bigger if getting a lift, i thought i may need a lift to fit them was all, other wise i was looking at the kumho kl71 in the 285/75/16
but if people have recommended tyres that are better im open for suggestions !
cheers for the replys guys

Ive got 285/75/16 XMT's on my 185 Surf. I wouldnt go bigger without a body lift as these did rub in the front when turning (factory ride height). The tires just touched the corner of the front bumper and rubbed hard on the back where the bottom bolt for the flare is. 16x8 -35 offset, tyres sit out 10-15mm or so from the factory flares. Rubbing could of been caused by the offset, but I removed the front bumper and pulled some castor into it so the tire cleared the back of the flare.

My standard 185 alloy rims have got 15 on them for the offset, so I'm assuming that's a +15mm, rather than -15mm.

I have a Gen 3/185 inter cooled Surf and I have fitted BF Goodrich 265/75R16 Mud Terrains on the standard Toyota rims with 2" lift. There is about 20mm clearance at full lock.
