hey guys, have just put a 2" lift in my 97 surf,
and am looking at some 16x8 rims,
but here comes the....... what tyres do people recommend? im looking at probably 285/75/16s and have been looking at the BFGoodrich, kl71, and federal courgia MT..
can get the kl71 for $363 a tyre, and the federals on special at kats in kaiapoi for $315 a tyre and BFG for $385 a tyre..
am open to oppinions , but was trying to stay clear of the cheap stuff, as would like to have something last a wee while, but around the $3-$400 mark?
cheers

Have you looked at the Hankook Dynapro MT? They are pretty good on the road for a MT but still work well offroad.

have had a google up and read up on the review for these tyres, and must say they are pretty good by sounds of things, and they are only just slightly more pricy than the federals, but the federals reviews are so 50/50 that these look like alot more bang for buck.
thanks for adding to my troubles.... haha
for the coopers... love them, look amazing, but just to dear for what im wanting to spend other wise would look at them
and the buck shot, i have looked at them, but chose the kl71 over them only as i have had them before
thanks for the comments guys, sorta knocked the federals out.. by reading reviews, however now the dynapro doesnt look half bad at all, and just over $300 for a tyre is pretty good!
Re: another tyre post...

This tyre blew out and had 11 splits in it all in the same place between the sidewall lugs. It had been used/abused off road for a few years.

Best bang for ya buck
either the Hankook RT03
or the Maxxis 762
both are gonna do what you want and give good mileage
plenty of users on here have described the Maxxis 762 as the best all round tyre by far

another vote for the maxxis 762, loving mine. Good drive, decent traction, good wear, nice road manners.

Re: another tyre post...
Fun fact I learnt about the KL71s over the weekend is that the 32 x 11.5 actually measures in at 32.5" whereas the 33 x 12.5 only measures in at a measly 32.7" so If you decide to go the KL71 route perhaps look into saving some money by getting the 32s, I run them and have done for the past year. Lighter than their 33" counterpart which is always a good thing on an IFS vehicle.
Road milage & handlings are good for a mud tyre when run at the manufacturer recommended 40PSI, really quiet and barely wear.
Off road they go really well on my rano so I imagine it'd be similar for your Surf. I've heard mixed things about them on heavier trucks though eg Safari's.

Bought my 35" Federals for $319 incl each.
Awesome offroad but i trailer my truck to events so dont have to worry about road wear.
My mates had them on his 31" on his road going Mazda bt50 for 6months now and they still have a heap of tread.
Another mate of mine runs 2 sets of tyres, turns up to events on his road tyres and then swaps to his Simexs. Takes him 5 mins a tyre as he uses quick lift alloy jack and a electric rattle gun. Pain in the arse i know but saves bucks in the long run.
