WTB: Landrover Series

Post by Cameron »

Lads,

I'm after an old Landy.
I'm not entirely sure exactly what I'm after at the moment but I'd look at any vehicle with an open mind!

My basic thoughts at the moment are - nice and solid (don't want to be buggering with too much chassis/bulkhead issues)
WOF/REG
88/109" Truck cab or wagon roof.
Stock or engine conversion. (LD28, 202/186, 4DR7 etc etc)
Even army Stage Ones considered!

My preference at this stage is S2A SWB stuff, would love a diesel of some sort, but as said I'll look at anything on it's merits.

I'm located in Feilding but will travel, have cash, and a reasonable (I believe) Budget to work with.

Seems trademe is a little baron for anything that's really grabbing my attention at the moment, although it was awash with sweet deals a month ago when I was trying to get rid of a couple of vehicles to make space! Always the way.

Let me know what you've got languishing in the yard, any jokers with landys for sale or anything!

Cheers

I was going to mention that!
It does. I'm not sure I'm really that keen to go through a recert at this stage... Anyone know the lad that owns that thing?
I might talk to a certifier about that one....

If he dropped a grand on it I'd be all over it like Jerry Brownlee on a free McMuffin Combo

I wouldn't worry too much about what the purchase price is that'll be the cheapest part of the ownership of one of those old landies :D

you might be right there!
I just sold my two japanese vehicles, and have decided that two French cars aren't enough pain and torment for me so I need a landy in my life again

Nah it won't cost much at all in maintenance if your just using it for running around/basic recreation.

Couple of old screwdrivers and adjustable spanner will fix most things.

Loving the similes by the way Cameron, they're sticking like shit to a blanket

If you intend to keep the landy for some time, don't be afraid to spend a little more to get a good example, as it could save you thousands later.
and think about selling those french cars… :)

Frenchers are here to stay! They're pretty reliable and heavily rewarding. In fact over the weekend I spent the day beating the shit out of one of them on the track and didn't have to lift my bonnet all day (which was fairly good compared to some of the others I noted... they were all italian steeds though... haha!)

Yeah definitely want to spend decent coin on one, but want it to be worthwhile to have spent the coin. Some of the trademe examples at the moment are pretty up there for what you get at the moment (a couple around the 6-6500 mark that are $3k vehicles at best!).
If I'm spending $6g I want it to be fairly decent and I don't think that's too much to ask!!

lax2wlg, definitely agree. I'm only into my shiny type stuff/general rec/bit of firewood gathering and light towing and I'm fairly mechanically sympathetic so I doubt I'll have any issue keeping one reliable enough for my requirements! It's all what ya make of it/if you expect modern jap reliability and beatability out of one of these old girls then that's where you'll come unhinged! I doubt I'd ever manage to destroy and axle/diff on one of these (I didn't manage to on my old s2a river hack) with my useage, I'm all in it for the character of the vehicle at the moment. I don't need a reliable daily runner so why not eh?

cheers

I know someone up here in whangarei with a S2 hardtop 88" sitting in a barn, rego on hold and looks fairly solid from what I've seen. Gearbox currently out as IIRC 1st gear let go, but there is another complete one with stuffed body that could go with it and a few spare diffs. Not sure on price but I think he was hoping to get $1500 for the one with a blown gearbox so probably get the lot for less then $3k. Let me know if interested and I'll PM contact details.
