Yes I know it's going to grenade itself but what's everyone recommend to try and make it die quietly? And perhaps a little slower?
The Terrano box was alright then I replaced the oil with cheap stuff and now it's quite noisy. Shifted into second sweet before the change and now it's quite notchy

Re: Quieting down a noisy gearbox
Not all oils are the same.
Did you put in the correct type, rating and velocity oil that is recommended for the gearbox?
When you drained the oil was there a lot of filings on the magnetic bung? Should be some but more than expected or 'larger' bits.
I would get the correct and a good quality oil in there and see how it goes.

Re: Quieting down a noisy gearbox
According to the factory technicians manual
API-GL*1 non EP. for the 4wd fs5w71C 4 litres and fs5R30A 3.6 litres, but that was at factory So dont forget the advisory saying to add more via the gearshifter...
Apparently the semi/synthetic eats the softmetals used in the gearbox

Re: Quieting down a noisy gearbox
I've had good results with Castrol VMX for quietening down gearboxes & improving shifting.
