Thought so. I've got an old uniden 40ch handheld, and a uniden programmable dual band base unit that has 40 programmable uhf channels but I don't know if the channel spacing is right to be able to make it 80ch, does pick up police frequencies tho haha, not that I probably need the other 40 anyway most people seem to just use old ch16. Just a bit reluctant to put a $400 radio in the bush hack lol

The police went digital a while ago now , so no you can't.

Haven't used the baofengs but they look ok. They are able to be "tuned in" to frequencies that you shouldn't be transmitting on so they scare some people.

I just bought a GME 80 ch mobile unit and got a free handheld but yeah it was $400 plus incl the aerial.

Aliexpress is the place to go for the Baofengs if you want to miss out the middle man.

Actually yes you can in most areas
Only a couple of cities are running digital....
My uho15sx truck unit can pick up the non digital frequencies.

I brought a mighty baofeng about a year ago $65 from a guy that brought a few in its mint was programmed with the civil defense frequency in to I know it's frowned apon just don't play silliy buggers with it if ya in a situation where ya need help the rules go out the window talking life of death not in need of a tow. Has fm radio and a flash light but a $300 gme in my buggie the other week kiwi soon sorted that out no go any more the baofeng gets lost in mud bogs and keeps going I'm well sold on them.

Looks like there's a USB cable that plugs in the accessory port where the headset goes, guess you can get the software from their website or somewhere.
