Mid 2000's Pajero's

In the list of new tow wagons is a mid 2000's pajero diesel (20002-2007ish) . From the post a while ago on the engines it seems the earlier ones will be non rebuildable pump style and the later will be common rail ? Anyone know when the common rail came out ?
Am I better to pony up the $$$ and get the later engine ? I did not like the $6g pump rebuild comment . I do moderate Km's so will try and get one in the low 100 thou and it will be up around 300 when I sell it so resale is not really an issue , it will be worth zip by then . Hence a Prado is off the list .

Anyone have any pointers on these models , 5 door auto , what to look out for ? Or a good site to have a look at .
