So the general consensus is that the normal hollow can targeted at boy racers are useless on a diesel, and the Provents are the best. But I donk know if I can justify $200+ on a catch can.
I've seen the home modified one on here a few years ago with a breather filter on the inside, anybody made one or similar and can confirm how well it works? I imagine the filter would need cleaning/replacing fairly regularly.
I've also had my own idea of using the oil/air seperator from a land rover engine and running the drain into a normal cheap catch can or other solid container where you can monitor the level of the contents, pretty sure some models use an inline one which could easily be made to fit any breather hose but not sure which ones exactly, seem plenty of aftermarket replacements that are pretty cheap but don't want to order the wrong one.. thoughts/ideas on that method?
Just about to embark on blocking the EGR, replacing intercooler and cleaning the intake out so want to make sure its not going to get full of oil again

i've got two that i used a breather filter internally. one is still in use. havn't cleaned the filter in years!
but other one i had to disconnect due to water turning the oil to gray sludge and clogging up the filter.

i just capped a 4inch pice of steel tube packed full of stainless steel mesh used in kitchen sivs then with four 1/2 inch fittings two at top two at bottom welded in the two bottom ones are from crank case and too sump, the top ones are breather to engine intake pipe and air compressor/ex air con pump.

guys use an extra can for pto winches tap and drill hole into top of pto worm housing for 1/2 inch fitting to bottom of second can then top one with screw on cap has breather to air filter box. then leave it 1/4 full of gear oil/ then when hard winching the oil can expand into catch can without popping out pto seals.

Found one of the pro-vent copies for 105 delivered so will see how that goes
