Does it work out to lifting the truck in the rear?

will it stuff the cvs pretty fast winding the torsions up in the front?

surfs stuff cv's pretty quickly anyway once raiased as there about half the size of every other jap suv maker.

In saying that there steering set up is moderatley better then some others too (mine included) so I'd say take your chances.

Anyway, was your question do safari springs fit in a surf? or how long do the front cv's last?

winding the front too far does put extra strain on CVs and steering etc. fitting FWHs can help out, but keep the lift down to keep it decent on road and also to keep some downward flex off road

Interestingly the outer CV on the early Toyo IFS is actually larger than the outer birfield on the equivalent solid axle of the same era.

But the stub axle is shittier on the IFS.
Plus watch out for the stub axle that goes into the diff, they break too.
And the little inner tripod joint, dont let that overextend and pull apart.
And the differential mounts.
Oh, and the differential itself.

And the idler arm and inner tie rods.
Early ones had a recall problem with the centerlink shearing in two.

And don't jump it unless you have a truss on the lower control arms where they forgot to put one.

I'm interested to know this also but still no answer weather the springs fit or not and how much lift they give.

Do the Surf rears have a taper at one end? Safari ones I have sitting here don't, but 80 series ones do. I know 80 series ones fit as mentioned in the link I posted earlier.

Have some patrol springs in my shed if you want any measurement s taken - if they fit, I would suggest that they would lift the rear of a Surf as even if they aren't longer they are designed to take more weight, so would compress very little with just a Surf sitting on them.

I have been looking into this myself. Can you measure them? Are they 370-390mm? If so would give about 2" lift in the rear and I think surf ones are 134mm inside dismayed and 17mm thick wire.

Springs from 2005 lwb patrol dimensions as follows:

Rear = 455mm high 175mm wide 18mm coil
Front = 420mm high 155mm wide (one end is tapered to 120mm) 16mm coil

All dimensions measured externally with no weight on springs. Vehicle had done 190,000kms with very little towing when they were removed

If they are the size you wanted and you live near dunedin would probably swap for beer

I'm not 100% sure they would work but I think they would. Unfortunately I'm in Palmerston North no where near Dunedin otherwise I would take your offer and I'm pretty sure shipping wouldn't be worth it.

It's the fronts that would be close to fitting.
