Howdy everyone, been thinking of a few things of late.. and seen a picture on tardme.. now this is what im hoping someone can help me with.. are the 70 series front axle balls with the high pinion 3rd the same as the 80 series balls? as some might know im having trouble with my arms in the front of the 80 and been thinking outside the square for a bit and this could solve all my problems.. also create a couple but considering the outcome I could deal with that bit.. And if they are the same.. anyone got a fkd 70 series front end that I could try my theory out on..? Cheers

Yes, Madaz has a 70 front end (old style one. 9" diff, hilux size balls and cvs)

There are 70 front ends and 70 front ends though. Some 70s run 8" diffs (high pinion same as your 80) , others run 9" low pinion diffs (Madaz has a Nissan gq front in his though)

From what I understand there are three sizes of ball on the end of toyota solid axles, and 70s have had them all.

Small. Hilux, 40 series, Bundera, old leaf sprung 70 series (Troopy, utes, mwb frp top etc).

Medium. Prado (lj 78)

Large. 80 series, 79 series (modern troppy and coil sprung utes).

So the question is, what are you asking about? Is what the same as what?

(edit: Yes, Madaz runs a 70 rear end as well, kind of...)

What we really need are 6 shooter knuckles and arms but the arms need to be made to keep the tie rod at the factory toyota hight, eg not for high steer. That would help make it prettymuch bulletproof, but would probally make the steering boxes a even weaker link

Are you having problems with the steering arm studs coming loose/shearing or trying to overcome another problem

Or run a gq front diff with gusseted balls and sum lamination, chrome moly cvs and axles, with mq housings to get the tie rod back in front of diff. At which point th draglink will probally end up clashing with the panhard rod....... fix one problem create 2 more..... hahaha

You could run six shooters and make your own arms up? Big is screwed though, with his larger knuckles. (Tempting to make some kind of joke about southern knuckle dragger...)

In all seriousness, i only wreck a set of those arms every couple of years , in fact im pretty sure that in the entire time my hilux has been going ive only bent 2 front tie rods, 3 of the forged knucle arms and 3 steering boxes with twisted sector shafts. Almost acceptable damage considering where its been and done
