Clunky HDJ101 4 speed transmissions?

Test drove a couple of these trucks and it seems like their transmission are quite clunky.
Usually occurs during the first 3 gears. Especially noticeable when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd when you put your foot down.
Kinda feels like dropping the clutch too quick in a manual but these are 4 speed autos.
Is this normal for 300 - 350k vehicles? Or are they signs of transmission on their way out?

When talking to aceomatic in CHC when one of my autos died, they said you should expect to recon a cruiser auto every 300K

Does the early 100 series use the same transmission as 80 series?
How much did you spend roughly to recondition it? Should I wait till it fails before I recondition it or do it now before it dies? Will it be cheaper to do it before it dies?

Mine does it when accelerating then lift off the gas pedal and it shift up a gear
Been like that for a few years now but hasn't got worse I did bit of reading online about it and is quite common with the 4 speed.
Another thing I've noticed is when pedal to the metal the engine slightly drops the revs on up shifts which makes it change gear smooth 80 series don't do this.100 series got more electronic with efi etc,I'd say there is a few differences between a 80 and 100 trans
My 100 done way over 300k and never been apart.

Thanks for the input guys.
Yes Lchundy that's exactly what mine does at the moment. The one I test drove had the same issue I was assuming that it's not normal but not all that abnormal either.
I'm assuming that the 100 series has A442F? I tried to look it up online but all I've been seeing is a lot of people having their overdrive failing. Other than that not many other common problems and no one seems to be describing what I'm asking about.
