Think you might need to review your pricing seems a bit high

your kidding right? they go on a 50% off sale every three months and the latest ones have dyneema?

the one you have i paid 400 even for brand new, no way in hell anyone going to buy that for 700, specially when the retail on a runva is 695.

I doubt is the real deal as I have just been through this and I wouldn't trust ANY Chinese made SK75 Dyneema.. to be blunt.. it might kill you as its NOT SK75  .. they tell you what you want to hear.. Talk to Tony at ultra ropes.. very interesting..I have broken 11 and 12mm ( Chinese dyneema) like butter.. and its about 1/2 the strength of the real deal.. you have been warned..

I'm interested in this as I am running 14mm at this minute been thinking about going 10mm to fit more rope on the drum would it fit much more on? 10mm is smaller so I'd get good shit like you say from tony but would 10mm be strong enough or should I stick with what I got

Cheers Luke

Depends a bit on what truck you run and how you use it. I had 10mm amsteel on my hilux for 18 months (including a season of winch challenges). We broke it a couple of times in comp so this became the back up rope. Was happy with the work the rope did but went to 11 mm for the next rope to be able to abuse it a bit more.

If you're running something heavy like a lwb saf you probably want to start with 11mm IMO.

I have gone with amsteel blue 11mm and so far it taking a beating... but tbh.. it hasn't seen the light of day yet.. I got 50m and there's still plenty room on the drum.. so working it out.. 12.. Chinese supposed breaking at 13-14ton devide by 1/2 = 7t for rounding.. use table below to see the difference.. Just to be clear here.. I'm not plugging Tony.. but I have had in-depth discussions with him and the only company that makes the dyneema strand is DSM in the Netherlands..( which I knew already) The Chinese have not got their fibre correct but are calling it dyneema.. which is where it gets complicated.. it's just not as strong and for all we could know.. its made out of recycled milk bottles..

Very interesting topic for discussion and sorry for thread jack.. maybe a mod could move this to it's thread..?

That Chinese recycled milkbottle rope varies batch to batch sometimes it comes out with a reasonable breaking strain and sometimes its weaker than shit its a bit of a gamble what you'll end up with, I tried one, learnt my lesson and went back to genuine amsteel, the Chinese shit is probably ok and suitable for a lot of people and their applications but its a bit of a gamble if your doing harder club truck or comp work it can turn a good day into a big turd with a short rope that wont reach anything :D

theres plenty of cable calculators to work out drum capacity on google mate http://www.ingersollrandproducts.com/li ... s/drum.htm

theres a big difference how much cable you can spool onto your drum when you go up or down 1mm-2mm

10mm cable is surface area 78mm2
11mm cable is surface area 95mm2 (20% more than 10mm)
12mm cable is surface area 113mm (45% more than 10mm)

if you run a rear winch with a long distance between the drum and first guide you can spool the drum up with cable till its close to full and the cable will typically always layer properly (ish :D ) up to the top of the drum without overspooling on the side or jumping the drum, if you've got a front mount winch don't put too longer rope on it to fill the drum up to the top as you typically always winch to the side (trees are always on the side of the track not in the middle :D )and the cable starts spooling up on the side of the drum and jamming or jumping over really quick, it starts making winching really slow and time consuming having to unspool and reset or go looking for anchor points further away, if you run about 2/3 capacity on the drum you'll rarely have problems with overspooling and the big piece of spare chopped off cable your left with gets turned into a winch extn to add on when you need to hook onto winch points further away

I totally agree with Big, I broke my good rope, due to stupidity, I was very generously lent/given a chinese rope by a fellow competitor, it got me through the comp but started breaking on easy winches next time I went out. If your doing the occasional winch the cheap stuffs ok, but for hard trips & comps spent the money & get a good quality rope from a someone how knows what they are selling & has some actual knowledge.
