Hi ORE,
Does anyone know if the main instrument cluster in the Y60 safaris are 24v or is there a voltage reducer? I know there's one for the stereo, but what about the instruments?
Cheers, Dylan.

They do. I fitted a 20A one after many woes with my dash.

The voltmeter and all indicator/warning lights (high beam, indicators, oil light etc) run at 24v.

The speedo, tacho, temperature, oil pressure and fuel gauge all run at 12v.

I can dig out my notes on wiring/colours if it will help you, but it should be on the clarion unit under the passengers' kick panel. I think I ended up splicing all the 12v outputs into one.

Short wheel base models have the reducer in the left rear guard

on the wiring harness plugging into the converter:
a) red, pnk band, 10a 24v in
b) grn, 3?a 24v backup (acc?)
c) pnk, blk trace, ?a 24v "lights"
d) empty

i ran a new hot lead straight off the batts for the 24v supply these skinny .8 - 1.0mm wires are just... Skinny.

12v outputs (i twisted them all together)
e) blu, 3a "clock out" (japanese for instrument cluster??) - I think this is the one i had to connect to get my gauges back
f) brn, ylw trace, 1a "lights" (backlight on dash? - unsure)
g) red, pnk band, ?a "backup"
h) blu, 10a, radio out

hmm this is strange. I've just checked and there isn't any reducer anywhere other than the one in the dash board. But the out put of that one only goes to the stereo - which along with the reducer is aftermarket. So where does my dash get the 12v from?

Hi again guys, does anyone know the dimensions of the cluster, or the dimensions of the recess it backs into?

I'm planning on replacing all my stock gauges with a selection of aftermarket gauges - fuel level, charging amps (I can read the voltage on the screen of my turbo timer), oil pressure, water temp. I'm tired of the inaccurate and often unreliable stock gauges.
Plus a new set of gauges is enticing.

Not to sure however on how I'd go about fitting a new speedo though.

The gauges I was thinking of were 86mm gauges for the speedo and tacho, and 52mm for the others. I already have a boost gauge mounted ontop of my dash, and will be getting a EGT to go with it, so the only one I'm worried about is the speedo really.
