hi guys,
I am always looking for some extra punch for my 1KZ-TE engine in the KZJ78....
a friend has recently bought a G-Turbofrom OZ for his HDJ80 - unfortunately they don´t offer anything suitable for the 1KZ... but it´s not a bargain either. the Mamba seems to be at less than 50 % of the cost of the G-Turbo.
Wondering if anyone has tried it and can share experience?
cheers
peter
MAMBA TECH Turbo upgrade
Re: MAMBA TECH Turbo upgrade
Hi Peter
Before you do any mods like turbo's etc replacing the exhaust system from the turbo back including the dump pipe will open her up....2 1/2 inch to 3" work well....
Will allow the factory turbo to spool quicker... the factory dump pipe has a bad restriction in it as it goose necks over the chassis rail.
Also the EGR system blocks up the intake with grease / carbon sludge, cleaning this out and blocking off the EGR system helps.
The biggest restriction is the factory electronically controlled fuel injection pump.. You can buy control boxes to adjust them some what but they are expensive... at least in this part of the world... The factory ECU also has a boost cut at 14 to 15 psi.... so putting in a turbo with higher boost will be defeated by the boost cut.... And then you need to tweak the fuel.....
Its a vicious circle...
Have a search of this forum on the 1KZTE engine mods... you will find lots of info.

Re: MAMBA TECH Turbo upgrade
Once you have had a look at the good suggestions above, if your still set on a turbo upgrade.
Consider having a talk to Steve Murch last I saw he was developing a upgrade for the 1kz turbo. He does a great upgrade on the ct20 as well.

Re: MAMBA TECH Turbo upgrade
thank you guys!
I am currently working on the exhaust and have my cousin build up the dump pipe and continue from there!
I thought the turbo upgrade would do some more tricks promising 35 % more airflow at same boost and the manufacturer claims the ECU shall be able to deal with it as long as not boosting beyond 0,8 bar or 12 psi. I do have a tuning box in my drawer but I didn´t dare installing it before the exhaust upgrade. problem is that the manual pumps are very rare here so thats why I thought going with the box for the ECU.
also looking at an intercooler to be fitted over the coming winter months, well our winter your summer
but the exhaust has prio 1
