Difference 88 to 93 td?

Just put a 93 td (Lwb)engine in my 88swb. Both silver tops
Rev counter Max's out with a few revs
I note the 93 rev counter sender is diff location than 88
Assume diff pulses. I have the complete instrument cluster from 93. Will changing out rev counter only solve problem ?
or does the instrument cluster condition the signal prior to rev counter ?
Are there any other differences to be aware of?(aware of diff filter)
