Hi all,

I see many members run 33 Mud Tyres on their Pajero.

From reading on here it appears the factory size is around 29.6, so one you add +5% this equates to a maximum tyre size of around 31.80 before you require a cert?

What tyres are people running and how are you passing WoF's and obtaining appropriate insurance cover?

I was just hopping for 32 Mud Tyre as I feel the speedo would be out with 33s and most of my driving is on rock and sand with minimal mud.

Would also like to b able to obtain WoFs at testing stations as opposed to having to try my luck with local garages hopping they will disregard such requirements.

Any feedback would be great.

Mate they don't give a rats about tyre size at testing stations as long as they aren't hanging out past the factory flares like a phat drift car

Only trying to do it the right way "on the assumption the testing station knows what they are on about"

See your point though - basically asking to be burnt!

Because of where I work weekends are only real options WoF's.

But cold try a local garage I suppose.

Do you know if I have the +5% calculation right,

Well - that's a relief to know.

Am I right in my +5% calculation 31.80 sounds quite modest tyre size wise as it basically means you would have to run a 31 or 32 and hope it scrubs itself down in time come Wof time.

a safari on 33" a 75 mm lift straight through a testing station checked my oil never saw the cert plate
89 safari, pto winch, 33x15 simexs. sliders,75mm lift . turbo intercoolered

the whole thing is a grey area mate, the 5% +/- is overall circumference not diameter so I assume you calculated it that way, as all tyre sizes (diameter) vary manufacturer to manufacturer regardless of what the size is embossed on the sidewall so nobody could accurately tell you exactually what the factory diameter or circumference of your tyres should be, most garages and wof inspectors vary what they will or wont pass, some will let you through and some wont :D

Some of them do. I got queried at my last check, same person being doing wof for ever and have had 33's on for 11 years. I queried it, and they said they been told to keep an eye out.

So I did some quick maths and left with a wof as you'll see below. If you have a generation 2 Pajero they came factory on 31x10.5x15 or 265/75R15 (sticker inside door jam) so you'll find that 33's are about 6% bigger, most measure about 32.7, a small enough difference for them not to bother arguing.

i took my safari for a warrant at the testing station, only failed on "tyres too big, lvv cert required".

Strictly speaking it is "outer rolling circumference" which, if I understand it correctly, is not computed from the size on the sidewall, but a physical measure of the tyre diameter as it rolls out in the ground.

Which would mean the variations in tyre size are to be accounted for.

Strictly speaking as well, how would they know what the rolling circumference was of the original make and model tyre that was on from the factory unless you keep proof of what tyres it left the factory with. Generally, sticker on the door normally tells what size it was. Calculation would be off that.

Remember how circumference of a circle is calculated from its radius. Tread depth changes as tyre wears out, which will impact physical rolling circumference depending on when it is measured in tyre's life.

What year and model Pajero?
