I have recently managed to crack the head or blow the headgasket on my 2LT LN130 and have been lucky enough to buy an LN131 which comes with the 3L.. I have pulled the engine and everything in the engine bay and the gearbox (which will be for sale shortly) but was wondering;
1) Do I need to pull the loom from the 131? Or does a 3L plug into the 2LT
2) Are the speedo cables the same
3) Do I use the LN131 dash cluster or is the 130 alright?
4) Should I pull the computer out of the LN131?
3l into a LN130
Re: 3l into a LN130
most importantly which 2lt do you have ? efi or d-turbo.
knowing what years the surfs are would help. there is a few differences over the years.
speedo cables, some came with mech gauge while others are electronic. have a look at what comes out from the gearbox.
dash cluster, depends on if it was 2lt or 2lt-e.
3l where never EFI, not sure if the ever had an emissions ecu like 2lt d-turbo have. it may just glow timer.

Re: 3l into a LN130
You have a 2L-TE according to that tag so it is an EFI motor, fitting a 3L isn't quite as simple due to the EFI. It can be worked around if you have the know how, time and money.
Re: 3l into a LN130
ok so 2lt-e to 3l conversion.
as the 3l doesn't have the crank sensor location drilled you either make a pickup off the crack (which is tricky) and use 2lt-e ecu, or run a 2lt injection pump or just use the 3l pump and be easy on the throttle.
need to use the tacho out of the 3L surf.
need to weld an oil return in the sump for the turbo.
wire an ignition on wire in the for the injection pump.
speedo remains the same no change required. pays to keep the other one as spare as the circuit boards are prone to corrosion.
check the 3l surf and see if its runs an ecu or glow timer. you can leave the 2lt-e ecu in as that runs the glows. need to swap the temp sensors over to the 3l engine. or remove ecu and use glow timer or manual glows.
recommend intercooler. the 3l intake manifold might be handy for that but check the size. pay to keep the 2lte intake manifold and injector lines in case you swap them over.
also oil coolers. 2lte oil cooler has the outlet for the oil to the turbo. however you can apparently bend the oil tube to reach the other fittings. by mem 3l uses the z9 filter which is a whole lot cheaper than the 2lte oil filter.
don't forget it needs a cert and possibly driveshaft hoop fitted.
