they need more $$$$

TECT [local energy co trust] are putting up $1M to help with basics like roading, water and electricity.

Construction to start early next year, 4x4 clubs and shooting clubs could be using the park by end of 2008 - quote BOP times.

I guess watch this space.

Up date from the local council

"Hi Brian,
Thankyou for your query on progress with the Development of the TECT All Terrain Park.

I have provided a brief update below.

The Project Team is in the process of finalising User Group Management Plans with user groups, which includes the 4WD club and we have recently concluded negotiations with Transit NZ over park access issues.

Funding is in place to undertake the necessary state highway intersection upgrades to make the park entrance safe for park and highway users. This is a one of the requirements of the resource consent to operate the park.

We have completed the design work for the intersection upgrade and are currently waiting for Transit's approval before proceeding to the tender stage. We hope to have tenders received, evaluated and awarded before Xmas 07 with construction being completed by April/May 2008.

All going well, areas of the park will available for use after these works are completed.

We are also advertising for a manager for the park who will be responsible for ensuring the park's continued development and promotion to potential users.

This is a good news for the park's development as the resources are being put in place to ensure the park is up and running as soon as possible.

At this point in time we are unable to give a specific opening date, but as mentioned above we are working hard towards satisfying all of our resource consent requirements before users can enter and use the park.

For further information, I have included a link to Council's website http://www.wbopdc.govt.nz if you log onto the site , then click on Major Projects, then click on the TECT All Terrain Park icon you will find more info about the park."

Looks as if our local play area will be ready sooner rather than later
