Is the Hilux on the tripple block ET's?
How do you rate them in those conditions compaired to the std ET's?

Do you find the lighter weight of the Hilux an advantage in that slop,or do you just get bogged to the head lights like anything else?

Looks like a shit load of fun :D

Some people dont like the three rows of blocks but mudzilla seams to go ok on them. The weight factor might have something to do with it.It is not much lighter than Monstr however, only about 200kg.It is a lot of fun and goes well :D .

I know this is slightly off topic but away, a couple of weeks ago I compared 3 different Simex tyres 35x10.5 ,35x11.5 and 36x12.5 all were extreme treckers ,both 35s were on 15x 8 wheels and the 36 was on a 15x10.
The 35 x10.5 was 10mm taller than the other 2 tyres!

INTERESTING

mixing imperial and metric there Madaz, perhaps you should have said 3/8" taller  John (red lux) now has 35x11.5s ETs on B/Ls 15x9 and they stand near on 36".
Wheres the pics of your Lux build? Is it goin ok?

On topic - Thompsons wouldn't be Thompson's without that Bomb site, a hell of a winch test most of the time.
Hows the track overgrowth in places, last Autumn when we went thru I was surprised with the heavier and encroaching scrub from the year before.

Hi Rangielux,..The tracks in realy good nick as far as scrub and crap goes,Its a bit tight in a couple of places, but i got my slug through without to many problems,The main problems we struck was starting at 7am the sunstrike was shocking ,we had to stop a few times just to check out where the track went, and secondly the Bastards who when they get stuck fill the holes with logs and any other crap they can find and leave it for the next poor bugger to get hooked up on ,The bomb site is a prime example,Every hole has submerged logs and crap in them, and as per Murphys Law you only find them when they wedge up under your truck and bend something....Steve

the only thing i hate about doing the track over the katikati side is the gorse !, having no protection from it, it all comes in the truck and sticks in my back and arse !..... but it helps keep the track from slipping away so i leave it alone....still hate it tho

will be doing a trip over there in the next little while(few weeks away as i dont have a seat in my truck at the moment !) so will see how the track is after you lot have been through

Hi Callum,Re the damage in Thompsons,I think a lot depends on how well prepared you are and how your trucks set up,Im lucky in that i go with a good mate Wayne(mudzilla) We both have pretty well set up rigs and we drive to survive, and dont do anything to stupid,We also have two winch men who know there stuff and we trust,If you want to do a good track try Waitawheta,i would rate this as harder than Thompsons or the Maratoto loop when the track reopens, that one has its moments also,.When was the last time you went right through Thompsons? How did you find it Hard/med/easy?...Cheers,,Steve

Hey Rangielux gonna have another crack at Thompsons are you?- with all 8 cylinders this time.
I hear the cossy clubs coming for another trip with you guys in march so I'll try and make that, my trucks entered in the tough truck comp if its finished in time, so march and april will be a hard out test time for it.
I would post some pics but I cant seem to get it to work and besides its only another hilux with my dodgy engineering.

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Back to Thompsons:

The last time we did it some p.o.s. had dragged the railway irons that you winch off out of the ground and in some cases chucked them in the bogs
Mint aye

ok. me was drunk.. i post too much when i been drinking.
i may look like i often do silly things.. but i dont go out to destroy stuff. if im 'havin a play' then its probably somewhere that its ok for me to do so..

will have to finish sorting this toy out before i try those other 2 tracks.. or give me a yodel when your next heading through.

Some good pics you lot took.. Pity i dont have my old truck.. it was a closer match to what you 2 were running - a winch..
Dont follow me. i'll get stuck and need a tow..

You've gone over to Katikati and back Callum? I wouldn't call that easy
-you sounded abit sluurry :drunken: Friday night at half nine

Yes true, we broke a front main spring on a truck winching thru the bomb site on a post submerged in the porridge :x
A couple of nice winch anchor points along the bomb site would make life easier thru that part wouldn't it. Although one time I staked a tyre on one of the railway iron anchors (it was covered by a fern) My own fault - would rather have them there than not.
