Where to go - Soft 4WD advise for a newbie

Hi,
I' a newbie to the scene and have just purchased a 2015 suburu outback and was wanting a bit of advise if I can.
I have noticed on some of the forums and 4WD Club pages that there is a huge difference between true 4WD tracks that most clubs seem to be involved in and the type of soft off roading that the outback can handle.
Does anyone know of off road tracks in the Waikato / BOP area that may be suitable for a vehicle of this type?
Have tried Old Mountain Road just west of Hamilton, but was thinking of forestry roads that are open to the public (like Galaxy Road or the Tectpark in the BOP if theypre suitable).
Thanks
Tim
