Hi,
I have a choice of using a set of 15" x 6 alloys (with road tires on them - though they can come off if need be) or a set of 16"x 6 alloys. What is the largest diameter tire size I can fit legally on them? Can I go a bit larger if I just use them as a second off road set?
Legal tire on my 6" rims
Re: Legal tire on my 6" rims
legally for use on a public road you can increase the circumference up to 5% greater than what the vehicle was fitted with from factory or greater than 5% if you get it lvvta certified, off public roads you can stick whatever size you can get on the thingdiver9888 wrote:Hi,

i have a 32x9.5 fitted onto a 16x6" rim. it fits ok , with a considerable amount of side wall bulge.
legally , ie you want tot get it certed or see an anal WOF guy . Then you should check the tyre manufactures specification/recommendation for minimum /maximum rim width .
From memory for Cert, a 12.5" wide tyre should be fitted to to a 10" wide rim and a 10.5" wide tyre fitted to a 8" Rim . Having said that each manufacturer is slightly different .

Re: Legal tire on my 6" rims
That's interesting UBZ.
I'm actually a bit stuck wondering what to do next. I have been collecting wheels and rims so have have about 7, 15" rims and 4, 16" rims with 4 road tires and 2 good 15" x 31 muds (and several other grotty ones). Ideally I want 31" or 265 x 75 on the 15" rims or 245 x 75 on the 16" rims according to the charts. If I can't get 31" or approx equivalent legally on one set of the 6" rims I have wasted a fair bit of time and money I guess, and a whole lot of junk sitting around the back of the house

Re: Legal tire on my 6" rims
hopefully not right because I have just put 315 75 16 ( 35x12.5x16) tyres onto 8" rims. manufacturer says mount on 7-9.5" rims.UBZ wrote:From memory for Cert, a 12.5" wide tyre should be fitted to to a 10" wide rim and a 10.5" wide tyre fitted to a 8" Rim
