I am looking for someone in Auckland with experience in engine transplants in Hilux surfs.
I have a busted 2.4 turbo that needs replacing and am looking for a mechanic with experience in this field. Im looking for information such as time frames, expenses, possible upgrades etc. And hopefully find the right person to do the job.
Regards

what do you want to repower with?
still want to keep with diesel?
what sort of budget?
what sort of power level?
simplest is fit 3l or 5l (5l-e is best IF you can find one).
otherwise petrol v8 conversion are popular.

I would prefer to stick with diesel, but since it is the 2.4L I would like more power.
I have been trying to find an engine but haven't found one at a reasonable price. I have however found a 1uz V8 for a good price and am interested in how much it would cost for a professional to install.
Cheers

bellhousing, clutch, flywheel, engine mounts, radiator, fuel lines and pump, exhaust, wiring, ecu, lvvta certification, brake upgrade to meet lvvta brake test requirements etc etc starts adding up real quick mate you'd probably want to have $5k-$10k put aside and probably closer to the $10k figure

be cheaper to buy someone elses 1uz truck than pay someone to convert your own

10k+ to pay some one to do it all if you push the ute into a workshop with the v8 sitting on the back. You can reduce this by " assisting" by draining and cleaning the fuel tank , removing the old engine and gearbox yourself . don't go and buy any bits for the conversion till you have talked to the guy that will be doing it. You know when you've found the right guy as they will rattle a list of parts off the top of there head while your standing there.
Or just track down the 2.8 replacement and turbo set up from a ln130 surf
