Shed floor coating?

Post by Clint »

Hi Guys

Will be moving into a new shed in a few months, it's got a decent smooth clean concrete floor in it, I'd like to paint / coat / seal it somehow & am wondering if anyone else would like to put in their $0.02.

My current shed got a coat of basic Dulux concrete paint which has lifted a bit under hot tyres & got a bit worn over 8 years, but has been way nicer than bare concrete, & it fitted the budget at the time. This time I'm happy to spend a bit more, but maybe not the $3500 that I got quoted for epoxy by a local outfit  I see some DIY epoxy on Tardme that would do it for about $400, next I want to look at sealers & maybe polishing.

I'm not going for uber-bling sparkle-speckle stuff here, just want something that will stand up to workshop use - jacks, fuel spills etc & be easy to clean.

Cheers

When they redid my garage floor, they used 2 pac enamel, really tough, athough its slippery when wet, should have thrown some sand into the mix.

I have used a two tin paint from ressene (forget what it was now) for two floors I have done . Both were old floors , cleaned with spirits of salts , or whatever they call it now , and then two coats . The first floor was great , did not lift , easy to clean etc and was only around $200 at the time for a large double size . The second one has not been so good , ressene told me they changed the formula of the paint when I got the next lot , maybe 7 years later . Its only been down ~3 years and its lifting in lots of places , overall not happy .
Don't get me wrong , better than no paint/sealer but given they were done the same way and the first floor was in a worst state , but it lasted well for 7+ years and the second lifted about a year after it was done .
I'm too cheep to spent thou on paint for the floor so I guess I got what I paid for :) . Think it was about$400 for a 10x7 the second time around .

Cheers
