QD32 into WD21 questions

As title states,

This is happening. Gathering information/parts to swap td27 for the qd32

from what I can gather the block is identical - meaning I should be able to use same engine mounts
-manidolds in and out bolt over
-my td27t inj pump will bolt into qd32t
-am I better to source a non turbo qd32 or a factory turbo one
-im keeping my auto trans for now. i need to source a different flex plate ? (6 or 7 bolt crank maybe)
-is vac pump on qd32 gear driven off block or just off back of alt like td27?
-sumps may be a problem?

From what i can trawl out of old posts on here Im quessing need a QD32T long block from an auto r50 terrano , possibly with starter and vac pump. Everthing else I have

I know kiwipete did this a while back, but sold it

Any input much appreciate 8)

I'd say go non turbo as the factory turbo ones all had electronic pumps as far as I know.

If you keep your auto get a factory turbo motor and just change your pump over. The ETi motors and later D22 Qd32 have the gear driven vac pump and this is a good thing as you have much more options with alternators.
If you plan to go manual get a motor and box from a D22 and put your pump and turbo on it.
QD32ETi motors are starting to get a bit thin on the ground and this is making them expensive, personally I would find a damaged R50 and wreck it.

sweet as paticularly the vac pump and injector pump housing, sump etc. Whats you QD32(t) going into, is it destined for your terrari? if so you'r the perfect man to speak to

staying auto for now until it blows.
so far looking like QD32ETI from r50 complete with vac pump and starter, ditch eti pump use my modded pump, hopefully sump fits

this the vac pump ya thinking about.

mines a efi factory turbo r50 I think but don't know for sure as the motor was sitting in a wreckers uncovered. blown head. striped and bits dumped in a suit case.

sweet was thinking more oil pickup but will be able to sort it

I've got one in mine.
I used a turbo one and had to modify a zd30 flywheel by cutting about 15mm off, due to the 7 bolt crank.
If you are gona put a manual in it the d22/r50 ones are much stronger and not too badly priced.
When you go to use the td27 oil pickup the crank hits it, so you need to space it off. Not too sure about the qd32 sump fitting in the hole.
Also the pulley spacing is different so you will need to get the later model power steering pulley and alternator or put the 27 crank pulley on

I was thinking a factory turbo one be better cause bigger oil jets etc compared to non turbo. Not sure if true for QDs but sure is the case for TDs.

Then remembered turbo ones were put in Mono chassis so figured the sump might be different , and now I've learnt definitely the flywheel has more crank bolts on the turbo ones.

Can the 7 bolt flexplate on the qd32eti engine fit my TD27T auto t/c? Not planning on going manual straight away.

I've got a n/a one here in bits that i scored from work and its pretty damn hefty in there. If you are looking at running under 20psi an n/a one would be sweet. The td flex plate would fit a n/a one. Dunno about a qd plate being modded to fit the torque converter tho

Td is six bolt and bothe run same auto. Just different transfer r50 has a lockable viscous center diff apart from minor differences such as pump timing and crank bolt pattern it is all pretty interchangeable really.

Turboing the n/a block is fine. The difference is in peak torque having longer stroke etc won't have to run big psi to get same result.

thats the plan. 33 atm, looking to run 27ish on a 3.2

Guys in Aussie running upwards of 30psi on n/a blocks but retard the timing a little compared to the factory turbo ones. I ran my TD around 25-28 psi for 4 years but had been tuned on a dyno. They did the same retarded the pump timing but not sure the exact reason. Could be due to the higher constant cylinder pressures. Didn't ask just let them do there thing and drove out with a smile on my dial lighting the wheels up in drive.

I wouldn't be suprised if they'e the same internals bar the crank. I've not had the pistons or rods outta my turbo one yet can' t compare. The n/a qd internals do appear to be substantially bigger than the turbo 27 ones tho (apart from the obvious difference of it being a bigger motor). With hind sight I would have gone with an n/a one.

Hi,

I am also in the process of putting a qd32 turbo engine in my 92 terano.

With the engine RPM sensor swapping from the td27 to the qd32 am i right to just drill and tap a thread into the spot on the side of the timing cover? is there anything else i would have to do? any special distance? I have put the qd32 injector pump gear next to td27t and they have the same amount of teeth.

Can't see why not, but td27 one reads off oil pump gear doesn't it? td27 sensor on injector gear is for the EGR computer. Like what your planning to do. Have also read somewhere you can strap that sensor to an injector line to get rpm. Not an expert however. If your plan doesn't work just bung your hole up ?

screw it back into the TD cover and measure how far it protrudes into the gear timing cover and replicate it on the QD.

Na, td27 use the oil pump gear, td27t use the Injector pump gear. Strap sensor to an Injection line? What what

Really never paid attention to it but ll the TD's been and gone have read off the injector pump gear which would make sense since it has to have accurate timing in relation to tdc.

Eti TDs/qds have a converted signal via way of the ecu from the actual injector pump cam inside the pump making it incomparable with mechanical instruments and vicsa versa.

Travis where'd you find your qd32t

I'm keeping my feelers out but they seem to be quite rare atm.

Anyway I'll look tomoro but on the td27t fsm I swear I read some crazy paragraph about rpm sensing and injector lines. Could have skimmed it and misread though.

Found it at the wreckers in Albany, had a faulty Injector pump / injectors and was blowing tuns of smoke, picked it up for $220. Its a N/A qd32 which is what I wanted for the 6 bolt transmission. I also have a spare working terrano I picked up for $300 which is what I used for injector pump, turbo and other parts. Managed to find a thread tap and got the sensor off the td27t onto the qd32.

Can't go wrong with a price like that. Be careful when dropping the engine in, the sensor pretty much sits on the steering box when in the vehicle
