RD28 Oil pressure sensor?

Does anyone know the location of the oil pressure light, and gauge sensor location?

Its not on my filter housing, there is one there, but it doesnt have a wire connected (and Im pretty sure it never did)

We went on a trip today, played in lots of mud and then the waipara river on the way home. Im pretty sure Ive got water in my connector as my oil light came on dimmly just before Amberly. Gauge read ok, so carried on to Amberly and stopped to try and investergate.

Since everything was covered in mud, I was unable to locate the sensor.

Kept an eye on gauge and light all the way home.

Light slowly got brighter, gauge slowly got HIGHER (ie, more pressure)

After stopping the truck, turning ignition off, and back on (but not starting) the pressure gaue goes up to just under half! Very interesting for something that has no pressure at that point of time!

So, Im seriosuly guessing I have water in my plug.

Nice little story for you.

All Im after is the plug/sensor location if anyone knows.

I will clean the engine etc tomorrow and get a chance to look for it, but till then  :? :? :? :?

ok, I have found it. After a lot of cleaning, and hunting, I managed to find the senor behind the oil cooler.

Its a dual sensor, does the light and gauge.

2 wires, one for each, returning via ground.

My light has stopped coming on. And the gauge doesnt sit quite so high now, so it appears the moisture in there is slowly drying out.

There is also a rubber hose, about 250mm long that appears to be the breather for the diaphram in the sender. I am assuming there is water in behind here holding pressure, hence the gauge being high.

I'll update you in a few days after I have attempted to pull this apart.

Ok, had a look at this yesterday. The hose leads to a boot, that does easily pop off the back. As I poped this off, water dripped out. DOH!! Obviously from the splashing in the river.

I sprayed some conact cleaner over the back/terminals, and blew out with compressed air.

Gauge sat a LOT better, but not right down with key turned on. Light was off!

Thourght Id leave the boot off, and let the heat from engine get any extra moisture out.

On the drive home, the light came on again.

Hrmmmm!!!

Maybe a bit too much water got in there?

Maybe there is another problem?

I'll let you know.

Sorted the problem, got me a new sensor.

Part Number TOPS0668

Shop round if you need one.

Appco/repco $185 (have to order in)
Gen Nissan $145 (on shelf in Chch)
Partmaster $125 (Have to order)
BNT = Very expensive, but we get 35% discount through work, = $100 and they had it in stock.

I would have gone geniuine and not shopped round as price was resonable I thought, but they dont sell parts on Saturdays!! WTF?!?!?!

I messured resistance across the terminals etc, and they werent what Id expect, hence confirming it was the sensor.

Fit new, and all good!
