Just picked up one of these apparently hasn't been running for a while. The body is pretty much non existent apart from firewall... Are they 24V or 12V? Any suggestions on getting it cranked up? Was thinking disable fuel pump and crank for 20sec to build oil pressure

They came out in both 24v and 12v, easiest way to determine would be to see if it has two battery locations under bonnet. If it only has one battery location then it will be 12v, two locations then it will be 24v.

I have heard of the motors starting up first turn of the keep after sitting around for 10 + years. It wouldn't hurt disconnecting the pump and building oil pressure. I purchased a complete mq just recently for the pto winch, the guy jumped in it, turned the key and it started first pop. The truck had been sitting for at least 2 years. The slave/master cylinder are common for blocking/seizing after sitting for long periods of time also.

The front guards are gone so no way to tell what battery situation was...

Try 12v, if it won't turn over fast go 24v, what cha got to loose??

There should still be 2 sets of terminals under the engine bay?

Did you pick this up from up North for $200?

I'll have a look, are the twin battery setups one on each side? Yeah was in maungaturoto don't need it and don't have room for it but was too cheap to resist! Thanks for ya help

Not really I went and bought it if he wants to buy it off me we'll have to work out a deal...

No luck unfortunately, seems to have fuel to the injectors, cranking over at a decent speed and manually glowed it but still wouldn't fire. Managed to get a few 2-3sec 'runs' out of it by spraying brake cleaner down the air intake so must be a fuel issue.

Or a compression issue....Know any mechanics with a diesel compression tester you can borrow?

It was the stop motor, disconnected it and it fired straight up unfortunately it has a buggered seal on the injector pump that's letting air in and causing it to miss.

Does it have a Safari or a Patrol badge on it? All diesel Safaris will be 24V, whereas Patrols can be 12V. When I picked up a old rusty safari for parts years ago that had been sitting for 6 years it started with 2 new batteries and a squirt of engine start no problems. Check that the fuel cutoff edic on the injector pump still moves freely as these can jam up.
