Canterbury Waitangi weekend trips?

Post by billyvanboheman »

I'm just putting the feelers out to see if anyone was planning a trip over Waitangi weekend in the North, South or West Canterbury area?

I know that Al is going the Otago way but I'm looking for something a little closer to home.

I was thinking of a possible over nighter but with cabin or similar dig's as I will have the family with me.

As I have only been a tag along on three other trips I would like the experience of others in a group.

I will have the snorkel on the truck by then so would rather a trip with some challenges on the way, rather than a nice scenic weekend drive.

Any offers or suggestions would be appreciated.

When is Waitangi? Im too lazy to look.

Could possibly organise a trip to Westcoast, stay in seddonville, they have a pub/hotel that I can get cheapish rooms at if they arent busy, (but they are busy all of Feb) or can stay at the camping grounds as well, but I think the cabins will be booked there also.

This would all depend if NUTS will be able to show us round a few tracks over the weekend also.

Also a great tim to do some fishing, both salt and fresh, GOOD fishing there!

Waitangi weekend is Feburary 3rd and 4th and 6th.

Bit of a bugger that it's not a Sat, Sun and Mon but oh well, I have the Monday off work as well but don't really want to venture a long way.

Yeah, I'm keen, I'll get in touch with nuts, just let me know what areas your keen on, and I'll start getting things organised. You interested in Waimagaroa to New Creek? (Mackley Track I think)

Im keen on doing something up round seddonville, 1, coz I work/saty in that area and would like to see that coutry. 2, I want to fish the Mokohnui on that weekend also.

So if its in that general area, it would be great.

Isnt that track between refton and there somewhere?

I think it heads from near Murchison (old iron bridge?) over to Denniston. I'll get in touch with nuts and see what he can recommend

All details in Pm, but just for the others

Yep, fishing that river is great, 8 in under 90 mins for me! :-D

Hence why I want to go back.

Track wise, just want to get out, noting too special, just happy to see some scenery.
