Hi another newbie to this forum.
Just wondering who on here has turbo 'do hilux 5l engine? What is people's opinions on the best set up. Exhaust etc? Does this shorten the life of the engine or is that a myth?
Turbo a 5l engine
Re: Turbo a 5l engine
plenty of info on this.
its much the same as the hilux 3l turbo conversions which you will find heaps of write ups on.
make sure its a 5l rather than a 5l-e.
most basic way is to use surf 2lt-e turbo and manifolds etc. only need to fit an oil return pipe to the sump.
engine life is more about the fueling side of things rather than the turbo.
poor mans way is to tweak up the max fuel screw a bit. to much will cause damage.
proper way is to add a boost comp and tune the injection pump.
also pays to fit egt and water temp gauges so you can keep within the limits.

Ive got one in chch . Come take it for a thrash if u want . Its awesome . Its only a ct20 and the stock pump wound up a lil . It goes awesome .
Turbo ing the engine improves it in every aspect . Trying to make the non turbo one go fast is going to kill it way faster than turboing it will
