Was doing about 90kpm today and put foot down to overtake. When I looked in the mirror the was a cloud of white smoke. Filled the road it was that bad. Pulled over straight away and turned it off. I was in no mans land so started it again and drove it about a km. It drove fine with no smoke as if everything was normal. I waited an hour and decided to drive it home (stupid move or not, time will tell) seemed to run fine.
First thought was its the head gasket but now I'm not sure cause it's running fine.
When I bought the truck there was a slight knocking/ rattle. My mechanic said it might be the water pump but the dealer seems to think it's the idler bearing. Would only knock/ rattle when idling however sine the smoke today rattle seems to have stopped.
Any ideas??? Coolant seems full and no water in oil from what I can see. Would draining some oil into a jar help.

more likely turbo is failing or you have heavy crank case breathing or blocked crank breather.

Turbo in my old Prado did that just before it blew, made a big mess.tweake wrote:more likely turbo is failing or you have heavy crank case breathing or blocked crank breather.
