getting appart an add surf diff??

Post by Petemcc »

Im trying to get apart my front diff to put a lokka in. with non add you just bash the axels out and the carrier comes out..... no so with the add. got off the first lot of those funny bolts but left the last two in for now. do i need to take these off and that last bit of casing to get the axel out on the add side? (hopefully some one whos been in one can understand what im saying). the axel has a gear on it right up near the bearing and that is stoping me getting the carrier out, how do i get it off!

Cheers Pete

those funny bolts are a real shitter,
i had to gas cut mine off.

from memory that side casing does need ot come off before you can get the intermediate shaft out.

also if u can find a LN61 diff head to robb the passenger side axled tube off i sugest you do, and do away with the stupid vacume opperated engagement and install freewheeling hubs.

otherwise your locker will be getting a bit of a rough up when you drive in 2WD as the drivers side axle is constanly being driving by that wheel..

also be carefull not to mix up the "Plate washer"s that space the carrier bearings.

what make is the locker you are using?
im installing a supra LSD in mine.

hope this helps.

Daniel.
