I just fitted a new snorkel to my 3rz Surf and used marine grade silicone on all the joins. Once all the silicone had set i removed the top of the snorkel and turned on the truck then stuck my hand over the top and it created vacuum, I'm just wanting to know if there is anything else i should be doing to ensure my snorkel is watertight

Did it stall? Or kept running witha vacuum? If kept running then sucking air in from the joints or the air box.

If air can get in, so can water.

Check the airbox, it might have some factory drain holes at the bottom. Sometimes clowns hydrolock/hydraulic (whatever) their engines that way.

Although if it stalled, thats what you want, right? Of course its a gasoline engine, hence the intake vacuum.

Mind you snorkels are a bit of a misnomer, they're not really intended so you can go through water up to the windscreen. I can't really see how the motor will keep running anyway.

Any type of engine will create vacuum at that point in the intake if it's blocked

If it stalled the truck then there's a good chance you're good to go. You could fill it with water and dye and watch for leaks, but that's probably more hassle than it's worth once it's on the truck.
One good trick for finding vacuum leaks is a 2 foot length of garden hose, used as a stethoscope. You can track down all kinds of noises pretty accurately.

Went for a play today in the snow and when i got home there was a tiny dribble of water in the bottom of my airbox didnt cross any deep crossings... was probably driving for about 4 hours and it was snowing/sleeting for the majority of that time is it possible to get water in through the snorkel head

Is it an oil bath pre-cleaner? Otherwise I guess it's possible that it's drawn in snow/sleet and melted/condensed down by the heat of the engine.
