diff oil plugs

Post by coxsy »

after a few deep river drives, in turangi and national park , changing oil in the diff is a hard job as plugs are all banged up, pulled one out of my old old diff , garage has got hold of another , will weld rings on to protect these ones .
they will be 55mm ID and 65mm OD ten mil thick :D

Are the plugs that are getting damaged to "drain" plug or "fill" plug? (I'm sure it will be the former, but thought I'd ask.
Given the welding in a "diff shave" can often cause the diff to bow slightly, do you foresee any possible issue welding these protective rings on, or not going to be a factor?

it's a slow job welding with, the renforcments of the front diff, rings are the same,
small welds let each cool before the next :D
