Now for the next project....
Should be better off road than the X5 as the Porsche has diff locks & Low range.

Gave it a baby test yesterday, on road rubber, damp clay, up hill, picked front wheel 6" off ground and crawled on up https://youtu.be/MNR-5r3LdKI

Just got new rims.
Have winch ready to go on. will be tucked in behind the factory bumper.
some solid recovery points.
Light bars so it will be impossible to get stuck ever...
Just working out Max tyre size, looks like 285 50r20... would prefer to squeeze a bit bigger on..
Custom: Exhaust, skid plate, roof box,
Distant future, Snorkel, big maybe as still not sure it would suit it. & rock sliders agin not sure it would suit em...

Its not whether they suit'em its more about the damage if you dont have'em.
Its the way i would be looking at sliders.
Cause you never know when that rock or tree will step out and toast ya sills if you dont protect them ah

True, Never had em in past but have also had a lot more height & masses of wheel poke & a great big chassis not far away..
mmmm may have to put them back on the list...

Any one know if they are a Cirt/wof thing... will be bolted not welded to the truck..

exactly.. at the end of the day I guess they are just super strong side steps... but getting the WOF guy to agree may be a different story.
Hence I would like to know 1st.

what i do know is that if you have a (50mm?) dent in your sill (on a monocoque vehicle) then it is a warrant issue, so you need to protect them somehow.
I followed the bmw X5 thread, it was nice work and it was entertaining. And it was novel. Now you have this project, with low range and diff locks and 380 horsepower.... certainly not what many would do with a Yuppie road warrior vehicle.
I've come to the conclusion , that you are either bored, or a little crazy ! (a hint of admiration there/ not of criticism)
Do you intend to on sell this one as well, or will it be a medium term keeper?

I always have my cars/trucks listed at a price that if sold I will be happy to move on to the next... I did feel the X5 was a lille to soon for the sale, & was a little sad to see it drive away, however the new owner is happy & here we are with a 100 more horses

Sliders shouldnt affect any srs systems. They will be lower then the doors so should not be of any concern.

Seperate note is how to fix them on as mono chassis dont really have a rail as such.
For up lift you could use legs and plates so it loads the floor pan around the area where the o.e side step mounts are.
For laterial force that would of been transfurred to the chassis rail maybe bracket around 3 sides and a upper plate bolted through the floor. Would pay to check with those that know more than me tho.
As ive only played with full chassis wagons and they are way easy.

Again before drilling holes get it checked out as there will be no go areas. That i am certain of.

So a bit of research, looks like bolt on is a no cirt, weld on is.

There is a point front & rear that the suspension is also bolted to so I am thinking that could be a good starting point..? And plates for the middle (watching for wires etc)

Those with late model pajeros with no chassis use the factory side step mounting spots for rock sliders and they seem strong enough as the frame structure is very solid at that point.

Nice, definitely helps to see how others have done it, and good thing with it using the same body as the dub Quite a few of them have been done for off-road.

Got the new Shoes fitted on Friday, got said shoes dirty today. (well only a little)
Ended up going with Monsta Mud Warrior, Nice looking tyre & measures bigger than it's rivals
285/50r20 but measures 305w or same as real 31x12.0 very little guard rub.

lchundy - they sure have the power to stay afloat in soft sand, I would guess if he/she noticed a stuck ranger the nerves would have locked their go foot to the floor...

So was a quite day work wise for me, so started on the winch mount, Stripped down & position worked out (Fingers crossed) looks like it will fit very tidy.!








Also thinking about a light-bar in the grill...

Got a heap done on the winch mount today.. Not pretty but not seen in this case. Seems to be strong AF..
the Fairlead needed to be slightly adjustable so Had the bolts poking outward with a piece of flat bar to stop the head spinning while allowing the bolt to move up/down by 5mm that way I can still undo it if the thread gets damaged etc.
Also has lightbar mount & solid recovery points.

Very tidy! I'd shorten that rope a bit if you're actually going to use it though, looks like a jam-up just waiting for the first slightly sideways pull.

Your not wrong at all, I have yet to pre tension it, well TBH haven’t finished the wiring used a jumper lead to test it.. still thinking it will be way to much, have got some eyelets on the way, was thinking the off cut will still make a good extension if ever needed.

Finished the wiring today, went with a kill switch, from what I could find they should be OK.. I would be a bit more sceptical if on a winch truck. but I also think the failure would be the contacts welding them selfs on rather than no contact.. Anyone else had experience with this type of switch on a winch..??

Wire the isolater into the low amp side of the control box. The low amp side has a perminate pos that feeds the forward reverse switches. Break into that small cable ran switch.
Heavy winching will melt those switches.
Just remember that the switch will only shit itself under loading... and thats exactly when you want reliability ah.
