Question about hubs?
Question about hubs?
Broke an AVM manual on the weekend and have replaced them with Superwinch, basically a better price
.(I know they are both made in the same factory). I still have one intact AVM hub
. My question is would there be any problems using it as a spare on the trail if I smash one of the superwinch ones
I don't think there would be seen as the same place makes both.

The key to keeping these hubs intact is to always make sure they are tight into the hub flange. If these are even slightly loose, they become more prone to breaking from movement between the wheel hub and free wheeling hub.
The hubs are prone to work loose over a few thousand k's. I check mine each time before i go out 4wheeling, and two or three times they have been loose. Worst time was when they were full or water

If you want good strong hubs for a safari the factory ones are the strongest. But you end up blowing the cv (right hand the same with the hub) it takes a lot longer to blow the cv and a lot longer to replace.
Basically the after market hub is a fues but is never quite strong enugh.
Have blowin two supper winch hubs in 20 mins, one brand new. The way you drive also has a lot to do with that, the front locker in, front wheels get air born landing with the power still on POP! realy slows you down during a comp
Hope this is some help

That's exactly how it happened. Wheels slightly turned to the right when powering up a steep bank. Need to be more aware of which way the wheels are pointing in future. FYI: have tried to get a set of Nissan manual hubs, called several wreckers all over the country, none available.

The manual nissan hubs are hard to find and not cheep.
the auto/lock hubs are quite comon and just as strong, but you do get problems when in auto when this happens just turn them to lock. (They try to ingadge while you are driving). You can also get hubs with no moving parts and are locked in full time like the old landrovers

You must have contacts in OZ that can send you some over AL???
Yeah I do but they drive toyota's and they would never be seen touching a nissan product
Thought I would try the superwinch ones for a while, replaced too many cv's on the terrano
Had the wheelbearings in the front replaced yesterday. Mechanic said the bearing was loose secondary to too many axle shims, took some out. He reckons that the slack in the bearing and hub from the shim most likely caused the breakage.
