I have a question re this truck with this engine. In the rev counter there is two lights, a red one and a green one, what does it mean when both are on all the time?

:boom: Na kidding. I really don't know. I did take a 2.4 turbo for a drive once and think I remember the red light means the turbo is sick +o(

red light means there is no pressure present in manifold ie no boost due to no load, green light means it is boosting. if both are going at same time it prob mean the sensor is faulty.

red light means over boost doesnt it? other wise when it was going well it would be on when ever the green one wasnt. this happend to my truck a year or so ago and i was told it was cos it was overboosting. had to get a new waste gate actuator was less than $100 for toyota to do it for me

Pete is right - the orange LED means the turbo is overboosting. The green one means the turbo is boosting.

However normally when they are both on it means the 2 sensors on the side of the airbox are either faulty or disconnected... (at least I think thats where they are... been a while since I was under the hood of a 2LT truck...)

emmm I got petrol engine in my Surf now which used to have 2LT in it. The orange light on mine stay constantly on and I haven't got a turbo! Maybe due to missing sensor?? the green light stay off..

check the filter in your tank as that blocks up over time and the system starvs of fuel but noticable due to lack of power at same time???

yep would second steves comment orange is over boost. if both lights are coming on then its a faulty sensor or leaking vacum line. mate has 2lt with boost gauge is not over boostin but lights often change from orange to green and back again. fit a boost gauge. not sure if this sensor is tied into fueling or not?

Yeah i agree. Mine does the same thing, seems to change from green to red at random times. Installed a boost guage and the turbo is still boosting all good. Apparently the lights/sensor go faulty quite often its just one of those things.

welcome to red light hell.

the red light is toyotas gneric "something is wrong" light. it can be several things from overboost to loose connectors. one that got me was when refitting the speedo consol some connector pins got a bit bent. it took a while to find that one.

if everything is working ok, if your running a 2LT (not a 2LT-E) you can disable the egr system, fit a hilux glow system then throw the whole ECU out.

or a poor mans fix, throw out the red light ;)
