Weldable pipe caps for diff armour?
Weldable pipe caps for diff armour?
after "denting" the range rovers front diffhousing, I thought it may be a good idea to get some armour on the LandRover if I want to go playing on rocks again. So.... where can I get some weldable pipe caps? I figure its easier than beefing up a stock toyota housing, and it may be stronger aswell.

Hell no, I got one from steel & tube for around $40 (IIRC, definitely not over $100) a while back. Of course you cut that in 1/2 & get both ends done. Never did get around to fitting it up to the Zook, might have to see if it'll go on the cruiser.
Just bending up & tacking on a heavy bit of flat to the centre of the bulge from the bottom to about 1/2 way up works pretty well too, thats where all the hits happen.

If it breaks, build it stronger.
If it doesn't break, drive it harder.

I' ve bought some here in Hamilton off Cook and Galloway engineers ,they cost about $30 depending on diameter and thickness, these guys are making them for caping rollers , also look for any company that makes gas cylinders.
Your best bets to probally try some of the local engineering shops and just ask around, Brian Howat would be a good place to start.
