Toyota Spares - How do I avoid getting ripped off ?

I went to the Toyota dealer and got a price for the power steering control seals and was told that these are a discontuned part that sells for around $400 but that there wae a set sitting at another branch that they may be able to get for me at around $100
They also qouted $70 for the heater blower resistor unit ( the bit that gives the slower speeds)
The power steering controler is weeping a bit and is also making some noise when the wheel is turned.
I was told that replacing the seals will fix this ...
Any help as to where to get parts at the best price would be appreacated

Hi
I just phone around & get a few prices from different places.
You may be able to get the heater part from a car wrecker or an auto electrician might be able to get you one for a better place.
Let ya fingers do the walking.

as for seals, i was with h20 when he did his power steerin pump..
from memory he bought 'after market non factory type' seals.. it leaked albeit ever so slowly.. then he went and got some factory style seals/seal and its been spot on ever since..
i dont know what the difference may be, if any,but for me, for peace of mind i'd go toyota dealer.. in that circumstance inhoo..
as they say, each to their own...
good luck..

You could try giving Just Cruisers a call in Ch-CH - aka Lineside Auto - on 0800 444 589

Beware of Lineside Auto.
Yes they do a good range of stuff but you sure pay for it...they are the most expensive wrecker in chch.
I recently needed to replace the bash plate on my 94 Hilux Surf.....
they were going to charge me $95 + GST = $106.88
I rang around & got one for $60 including GST from Falsgrave Auto.
sooo be careful.

I didnt damage it.A previous owner cut some huge bits off it exposing the bottom corners of the radiator to fit a bullbar.
Im in the process of removing the bullbar so i can fit an new bumper with a winch in it.

What about $3500 for a replacement radiator for a 94 prado! Took it in this morn for a clean at best, recore at worst. 60% blocked, and no cores or radiators in the country apart from the $3500 toyota!

All the prices i've had from Toyota for my LN61 were very reasonable, esp compared to Nissan stuff! Plus getting 35% off for trade is a bonus
