Help with Range Rover

Under the guage pod, I have 2 big lights. There is an orange one (for the centre diff lock), and a green one. Can anyone tell me what the green one is for?

low fuel light?? I know the one I just removed the body from had a big light flashing everytime I drove it (on empty). cant remember..

Na, the fuel light has Fuel written on it. This is under the fuel light and its a big arse light

It may be for something aftermarket because there is a switch under the dash that makes the light come on. And I dont think they put a switch in just to make the light come on

Its an old 73 rangie. When I flick the switch, it turns sp,ething off because the ticking that I thought was the fuel pump stops?

If the fuel pump stops it might be an after market kill switch and the orange light is just to remind the driver the kill switch is on. Quite common to fit a kill switch to an electric fuel pump.
If its one of the regular pod lights thay are (from top to bottom:
Trailer - Orange light (you think one might notice if the trailer fell off)
Choke - Orange light
Oil - red light (wonder why?)
IGN - Red light
Brake - Red light
Fuel - Green light (you think that might be red as well - no fuel no go!)
There can also be a diff lock light below the pod. Sometimes too there was a spot light switch fitted and a light to let you know they were on.
But, if the fuel pump stops its probably a kill switch, esp. if the switch is somewhat concealed.

Thing is that it keeps running, it could be my imagination thats making it seem like the fuel pump sound is stopping.

Hmmm...I just pulled out my spare dash and had a look at my Rangie, there are no lights next to the diff lock light. Mine is a '74.
If the ticking stops it might take a minute or 2 for the carbs to run dry? But you probably know that.
From my experience most rangies of that age have had many accessories added and removed and re-wired, the wiring diagrams make no sense anymore. i would guess its not original.
If it does not do anything, just turn it on during your next night drive to impress your passenger!!! Mine is like an areoplane at night, very hard to concentrate on driving!!
I actually have a new light to install, its a military aviation map light, does the old white/red thing and wide or thin beam thing, very impressive!! My mate has one from a British Nimrod installed in his Landy - you can never have enough lights!

PS.. do you have a haynes manual with a wiring diagram? You might be able to see something in there?
