Landing in welly has produced a bad memory for me....
Coming in, it was so windy that the pilot had to fly in at about a 45 degree angle to the runway, then turn and drop at the last minute. I swear the wing touched the ground on the way in...... We heard later on that the plane had to be "repaired" after that, so we had to go on a different plane to Auckland...... scared the crap out of me, but hey, I was only 11 at the time. Mum admitted much much later that she thought the wing touched as well, and that it was the last curtain call.........

First time coming in to Wgtn was on a Air New Zealand Force (RNZAF) Andover. The pilot run out of runway and just dropped it from about 6 feet, lucky they got big shocky's.
The other time was on a Air NZ, pilot came on the PA and said "Hangon, this is going to get rough". A lot of white knuckles as the plane did snakey's down the runway. A lot of praying and promises to God, Alah, Budda and anyone else that was listening.

1979 1980 was not unusal for the airport to be closed to civvie flights then half an hour later we would come in and land, yep 45 degree touch downs were only slightly more common than slamming them onto the deck from 6 feet
